here is my situation:
I have a GPA of 3.7 from UC Irvine and I have got recommedations from my professors already. However, I don't have much pharmacy experience. In fact, I have only volunteered in a free clinic in Mexico once with Flying Sams. (It's not that I don't want to volunteer but I don't have a car in Irvine to get around) Since I don't have any recommendation from pharmacist, do you think my chance getting in is low? Is there anyone got into pharmacy school without a recommendation from pharmacist in CA?

I'm in pharmacy school in Canada, with different admissions requirements so take what I say with a grain of salt, but I did get in. The stats for my school was 600 "prepharmacy majors" and 40 accepted into the school, so it was quite competitive. Thats a 15:1 ratio.

Our school focused mainly on admissions average (worth 65%) then a behavioural based interview (worth 35%, if you were chosen for an interview).

We had to use teachers references but LOR from a pharmacist were not required, and I doubt they'd be required in your case. Get one from a professor. I think with your high GPA (such as myself 😀 ), and LOR already in place from professors you're in good standing. Maybe try to just go to a local drug store and ask to volunteer/shadow, even for a few hours. Also with those stats i'm sure you could just take the PCAT and apply out of state if all else fails, which I doubt it would. Good luck.

I know people with stats similar to yours that got accepted into Pharmacy school in California. Your volunteer experience with the Flying Samaritans is a huge plus.

whoa i go to UC Irvine to but my GPA is no where near yours.

Your chance is very high than other applicants. Also, if you PCAT is above 60% then you will be fine. You just need to past their minimum if your PCAT is high. Don't worry!! You will be fine 😎

well, I don't think he HAS to take the PCAT because i've yet to see a requirement for the PCAT here in Califnornia. Though I do think he/she should take it because I am too, just for leverage I guess

BTW I don't mean to hijack this topic, but i've worked in a pharmacy for 4 years and been a tech for a year. Would this count for volunteer work? Well, I know it more than likly itwon't because its my JOB but what could I do for volunteer/community service if I already have a job working in Pharmacy?
