Okay so I am determined to go to med school...
currently I am taking prereqs for the mcat and doing VERY VERY GOOD in gen chem...anyhow, I had 2 undergrad degrees and abt to be done with my MBA (August). I am not sure if I should retake the Physics I & II and Bio so they can help toward my science gpa. I had Bs in PHysics and A in Bio. How much review will the prep courses prepare me? Should I retake those 3 courses or just take the rest of the prereqs that I haven't had? My friends all gave me diff. advices. Some said I should some said I shouldn't. What do you think?

Just to clarify... are you considering retaking your classes just as a refresher for the MCAT? Or to raise your GPA? In either case, I would say don't retake them. Makes little sense to retake classes just because you got Bs.. and no sense at all to retake the class you got an A in. If it's to jump-start your memory because you haven't taken science courses in awhile, I would just go with a prep course. If some concepts are rusty, go back to your old textbooks and review.

agreed 👍

From a GPA perspective, you don't really need to take those coursees again, especially if your overall and BCPM GPAs are strong. And anyway, if you've already amassed a large number of undergrad credits, adding a couple to the mix won't make a big difference to your GPA. The trick will be reviewing the material for the MCAT. If you think you can do this on your own or with a review course, then you should be fine with just taking chemistry and orgo.

I think adcoms may have a more serious question to ask you, however, considering your background and what appears to be your philosophy towards health. You have two bachelor's degrees and will have an MBA soon. Since you're taking chemistry at the moment, I have to assume that you did not seriously consider a medical career until recently. You should be prepared to explain why you want to be a physician now, and why an M.D. won't just be another degree for a perpetual student. Don't take this personally; it's just something I've heard from people involved in the admissions process.

Also, based on the website in your signature, you seem to hold some views that run counter to standard allopathic and osteopathic medical practices. You should be prepared to explain this, or perhaps to challenge yourself to prove that you really do want to become an MD or DO. It's impossible to judge anyone from a single post and a single website, of course, so you may have already figured this out.

I know this will come when I have to defend myself about my perspective on health...don't get me wrong, I am not against the standard medical practices at all...I don't know the absolute answer to what the best treatment is for a patient..it all depends on their sickness...and to me exposing to some other possibilities (alternative medicine) is not and should not be harmful to my desire to be a physician. At this point, I can't take side. And if I get turned down because of what I proud of as an accomplishment then I'll accept it and be glad i gave myself a chance for med school. 🙂

It is actually a surprise to me finding out some physicians don't do what they tell their patients..and they can't inform the patients b/c of liabilities/legal issues...until I start medical school and learn a lot more abt medicine I will not limit my knowledge just b/c I am afraid I may not get accepted.

FYI, I still get flu shot and see my PCP...hehehe so I still believe in standard medical pracites. 🙂

Thank you all for your suggestions..I thikn I will not retake the courses and just do a review on my own...

also Blee, I am still arguing with the person that owns the website in my signature about a lot of the information on his site... 🙂

Just beware of the image you put out to adcoms. You do not have to be a total conformist, and there is plenty of room for your individual character to show; at the same time, it may not be wise to espouse the curative power of prayer or the validity of "natural" cures for cancer, just to name two examples. I can almost universally guarantee that you will be seen in a poor light if you advocate anything written by Lorraine Day, some of whose materials are for sale on that site.

Just food for thought. In the end, there's only so much value you should put in the free advice offered by a bunch of faceless names over the internet. 🙂 Good luck to you.
