I am debating as to whether or not I should I apply at the end of my 3rd year or at the end of my 4th and take a gap year. I know I can bring my GPA up even more during my 4th year but I just want to see where I am at right now. It probably cant hurt to wait, but I just want to see.

Where can I be looking with these numbers? I am mostly looking at schools along the east coast-I am a NY resident, so all of my state schools. I am also willing to consider USUHS.

What else do you guys think?

White male, top 30 university, history major, chem minor

cGPA: 3.57 (some serious upward trend)
sGPA: 3.4
MCAT: havent taken but i expect 30-31 very even...hopefully but lets just use this for now since this is what my practices say and I still have another year.

Mother did not attend college. Both parents are immigrants.

EC's...this is kindve where I shine.

-EMS experience since 2002, EMT since 2006
-3 paid, part time EMT jobs-still employed
-Volunteer EMS agency since 2002
Resulting EMS awards: county award for actions resulting in the delivery of a baby girl, agency award for commendable service, fundraising committee member (would have raised $5,000 for our new building), youth squad co-adviser, will have approximately 3,000 hours of riding hours and over 500 calls

Other clinical experience: 1 year of radiology research, 2 years IR shadowing, 2 years shadowing cardiothoracic surgery, 2 years shadowing chief surgeon of the NYPD (chief of the medical division)

I founded a public health and safety organization-working for it to become the university's first rescue squad

Other EC's: Crisis Hotline volunteer, New Student liason volunteer (I visit HS's and answer questions in the admissions office), Intern for honor and ethics course x 2 years

LOR's-2 science, 2 history, 1 philosophy, 2 doctors (1 is the chair of the angio dept. and 1 is the chief surgeon of the NYPD) all will be outstanding

if there is anything else you need, let me know

just to note: These final grades are a very, very conservative estimate for the next year. I just assumed that I did the same as this past academic year...which will not be too difficult to repeat or exceed since this coming academic year will be easier.

I'm assuming you have just finished your second year? I would say it is too early to decide not to apply after next year! You seem to have finished all of your science prerequisites (if you haven't, your MCAT score is bound to improve) and how can you be sure your GPA won't improve after next year? In addition, if you are scoring 30/31 in your MCAT now, you have a lot of time to improve your score. You'll probably be a pretty good candidate in a year's time.

EDIT: considering your extracurriculars, you might even be a ROCKSTAR candidate.

ive always been worried about my GPA not being above a 3.6...while this may seem very weird, its the truth. My university seems to be very hesitant to give you a letter with a GPA around a 3.5. Traditionally, we do very well with med school acceptances and Im fairly convinced those who get accepted are the ones who follow the advisers plan 100%--which includes getting around a 3.6+ It took a hit my first year because I figured I'd be able to get into some medical school by doing what I did in HS--not study until the night before. This theory was proven wrong when i got a whole bunch of B's and a C+. Then after realizing my dream was in jeopardy I picked it up and have gotten 3.7+ and above all last year

You work your ass off and you just want it to pay off i suppose. I suppose the process is starting to weigh down and im just trying to gauge it right now.

well if your school's premed committee is like that and they let you apply, I'm pretty sure they'll do their very best to get you in.

would it be remotely possible for me to get an interview at a place like Sinai?

you'd need at least a balanced 32 MCAT (something like 10V, 11, 11 for science). 33.9 is the avg for accepted students, which will probably be lower for matriculants since it's ranked 20ish.
