hey guys. I need some advice on my plan.

I am currently taking a break from university. Used to go to one of the UCs in California. I am bio major and only I have taken most of the lower div courses and I have not taken any of the upper level science courses yet. So far I have 70 units completed. My science GPA is ridiculous low. I really do not want to tell you my grades cuz I know my grades are so embarassing:scared:, but I think you will have a better idea of my situation if I let you know my grades
so.. Here are my grades.

Calculus 1: C, Calculus 2: D; took it again and got a C+ 1st sem. of English: B, 1st semester of General Chem: C, 1st O-Chem: No pass; took it again and got an F (I know...:scared:) and took it the third time and got B+, 2nd O-chem: B, 1st Physics: B-, 1st Bio: C-, 2nd Bio: C
My overall GPA is 2.6; I think it will be lower in AADSAS since our school replaces grades with better grades if we retake it when we get below C-.

Anyways.. my grades seem pretty devastating everytime I look at them or think of them... My school has one of the worst grade deflation I hear, but still I know it can't be an excuse for my such bottom low GPA.

Well my plan is that I am basically going to retake all the prereqs for dental school at a community college and get all A's or close to A's. I think it is going to take about 2 years at most. Once I have completed or close to repeating all the courses at community college, I am going to take DATs. Once I take DAT, I think I am going to go back to my school and take all the upper div science courses that my department requires me to take like Human Anatomy, Biochem, Cell Bio, etc. Hopefully I will do a lot better in those upper div courses. But I kinda have no clue of when should I apply to dental school. Should I apply after I graduate? or should I still go ahead and apply with 1 yr left although I may not have taken as many upper div courses to prove that I have improved?😕 I don't know.

And yes. I know that admissions look down on the community college classes and some few schools don't even take any credits from community college, but I think the main problem with my situation is that I am worried if I will be pre-screened out of the applicants pool for low GPA.

I am currently volunteering at a medical hospital. I think I can ask my dad's friend who is a dentist if I can shadow him also.

Anyways, do u guys have any suggestion to my plan to increase my chances of getting into dental school?

Please... no negative comments such as I should just give up now cuz my GPA is ridiculously low. I know I can do this. I just need advice for how I can increase my chances. Anyways, thank you all for reading my lengthy post and all your great feedbacks!!! You all are the best!!!😍

This forum is for pre-DENTAL

But, anyways.
You should go into Post-Bacc or Masters to raise your gpa (Get 3.8+ for a whole year)
Like you said, your file will not be read because you will not pass the first screening solely on your low gpa.
Also, aim to destroy the DAT (23AA+), shadow a dentist and get good rec from him, volunteer, and write an unbelievably outstanding personal statment.
Lastly, apply June 3rd of next year and surely you'll land some interviews.
From there, its all you with the interview 👍

So wait...you want to retake your lower division courses that you didn't do well but retook, again? And at a community college? 🙁 NOOOO!!!:scared: Ignoring that you are applying to medical school, I don't think this is a good idea. While you can be taking upper levels and showing your maturity in academia, you are wasting time going back to babyman courses. It would be like re-reading a book that you read in 6th grade. NOOOO! Take your upper levels but do very, very well on them. Increasing your GPA through cheap diversions will be noticed by the med schools. Okay, here, maybe this is a better idea. Mix in your upper levels with your lower levels. For example, if you want to retake your intro bio, fine, do so. But take it along with say a microbiology class. Two upper levels for every lower level. And don't give up Mr. Nathan. Even though you I know nothing about you and am very confused as to whether you are applying to dental or medical school, I think you can make it to dental or medical school.

Sometimes, criticism can be a good thing. If you can't take a little bit of negativity, how do you think you'll be able to deal with crappy patients?

Your grades are low, but you shouldn't give up if med/dent is truly your dream.

Pick that GPA up, do well on the standardizing tests, and rock the interviews. Focus on those only. You know you can do this, so stop procrastinating and do it already! 👍

Thank you for your reply, and yes. I am applying to dental school!

I think you need to plan this out carefully. It is doable, but you must be in it 100%. Try getting advice from the under 3.0 club thread. Good luck!
