What does autocrine and paracrine mean?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
autocrine - It is a form of signaling system in which the cell itself produces the signal to stimulate or halt certain cell processes.

Paracrine - In this type of signaling system, ADJACENT cells produce signals that regulate the cells next to them.

hope that helped

that wasn't covered in princeton review bio i thinkt hat's going a bit too much into detail.

EK says all you really need to know about the paracrine system is that it is an intermediate system of signaling between the nervous system and the endocrine system.
