I'm looking up the drug piperacillin/tazobactam (Zosyn) in Epocrates. Under "Safety/Monitoring" -> "Monitoring Parameters" - it says "Cr at baseline, then in elderly pts cont. periodically"

Does that mean to monitor the creatinine against the patient's baseline level? And then in elderly patients just continue to monitor periodically?

Thanks.

Also.. it says "electrolytes if low K reserves" - Does that mean monitor the potassium if it's low? I'm just checking because Epocrates didn't write K+, just K.

Yep. Check it once before you start abx and then periodically to make sure it's not going up.
