i applied in june 2011 and there are still 5 schools that haven't told me anything.

not even interviews or anything. what could this mean ?

A wee bit late in the game, but not entirely gameless... yet. I personally wouldn't hold my hopes up and will start making plans on improving application and prepare for June cycle once more, if you haven't gotten any acceptances at this point.

It's probably a rejection, but you never know. I applied back in June and, as of yesterday, still hadn't heard back from three schools (USC, UCLA, and Maryland). I had pretty much assumed that all three were rejections; however, lo and behold, I got an interview via email from USC last night. So, you never really know 100% until you get the actual rejection.

Assume your chances are slim but still possible. At this point, it might be appropriate to call the schools.
