Ok this is what one of the teachers has on his website.

If you are interested in joining the Eskandari laboratory either as a student assistant, research assistant, or a Master’s student, please provide the following

My questions is what's the difference between the student assistant and research assistant? I'm guessing research assitant is more work, but does being student assistant mean I am also doing research can I write this in the application as doing research? Does it matter it's just confusing.

are you currently an undergrad student? if yes, then you're a "student" assitant. if you are graduated from college and getting paid for the research work you're doing, then you're "research assitant." that's as far as i know. if you're unsure, do ask your boss. hope that helps.

Toony is right.

The difference between those positions is based upon the level of your education, the number of hours you put in the lab, and wheather or not you are gettintg paid. A student researcher probably only gets academic credit for the work conducted. Also, the # of craedit hours you have signed up for dictates the # of hours put in. A student researcher's position is usually limited to a semester or 2.
A Reseach Assistant's position (to my understanding) is a part time to full time paid position.

research is research ... and yes, you can write both and your resume or applications when asked for research experience.

thanks a lot.
