Once more applications are reviewed, an interview may be forthcoming if the other applicants don't get them any more excited. If better applicants get reviewed, then you will languish in preinterview limbo and eventually get rejected.

Ugh, I got that email today too. I was surprised. I'm well above the average for the GPA and MCAT. I have clinical and research experience and I think my recs are good. What a downer.🙁

I was put on pre-interview hold last year in November, interview invite came in January. 🙂 It's not the end of the world, but you do have to wait more.

Pre August "MCAT result" clearance. All pending applications must go to make room for the new ones! It sucks.

Pre-interview holds are the worst. I'm sitting on one from UCSD right now. They're definitely different then the wait-list, in that someone can go straight from the waitlist to an acceptance. The pre-interview hold (to me read as a rejection) would require you to interview first, which doesn't seem very likely. There'll be other schools.
