What exactly does a strong MD-PhD LOR look like?

Hi there,

Title says it all, essentially. What should I ask my letters writters to specifically highlight? Is it potential for research, primarily, or something else? Does it have to be laden with pre-med competencies, or would it be more helpful to focus heavily on a few key character aspects that are reinforced throughout other letters and my essays?

For PI letters... highlight your ability to function as an independent researcher... especially creativity, ability to design original experiments and execute them, introduce new methods to the lab and master them, take on really hard projects.
