Hi. I am wondering what exactly ETOH stands for. I looked it up on google and it only said it was alcohol. I am looking for the full long term. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi there!
It stands for ethanol. More specifically, in medical notes, drinks containing ethanol.
Good Luck

well... technically it's "ethanol"... but basically yeah, it's alcohol, the stuff people get drunk on.... if you read doctor's notes... sometimes they will put "etoh poisoning" to mean "alcohol poisoning".

i knew it stood for ethanol, i was looking for the term that was a lot longer. thanks though, much appreciation.

The -OH part is the alcohol abreviation. Organic chem. Et is the Ethyl part, the C2H5 part.

so, for example, if you had methly alochol it'd be MeOH.

Eh? In the lab I worked in, everyone always used "MetOH". Oh well...

I've always heard it as MeOH. Not that it really matters... 🙂

Doesn't get any longer then ethyl alcohol.

Can we please restrain ourselves from bickering over MetOH and MeOH its pretty pathetic.

yep, ethyl alcohol.
it's a euphamism (is that spelled right?) to say drunk.
for example if you are on a radio then you can say "EtOH use" and none of the rednecks listening to a scanner will know that what you mean. it keeps the town from knowing that Bubba is drunk again...at least until they catch on 🙂
streetdoc

"Steetdoc"....you are 100% correct. ETOH is common Law Enforcement slang for "Under the influence"
