does it include courses like genetics or is it just the prerequisities...

Any course that falls into the BCPM categories is counted not just the basic courses

including geometry, intermediate algebra, trig, precalc that i took at a community college during high school?

if so, which it seems...sweet!

As long as they are college level (100 level or above) then they are counted as math in your BCPM and will count.

My question is does the BCPM really make any difference in the admissions process unless it is dramatically lower than the GPA? Is there any special way it counts in the overall 'score' for applications?

Not all schools number the same way as your school. At my school 100-199 are upper division, 1-99 are lower division (e.g.: basic courses). Both are college level. Community college courses would be lower division.

even if they are lower division, are they still BCPM, then?

What about your grades from high school AP courses? If we are supposed to include those, mine would have been higher. Are they supposed to be included?

Yes. Most of our pre-med requirements are lower division😉

No. You get AP credit, not grades. They are included on AMCAS since the university counted them as AP credit, which is counted when you get a 3 or higher on the AP test, not neccessarily getting an A, B or C in the class.

Depends what you mean by dramatically lower. Some medical schools post average science GPA scores. They usually are not much lower than the cumulative GPA.

what did you think the M stood for??????

seriously ppl, read the AMCAS instructions they are clear (on most things, but not all of course)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm pretty sure it's been said lots of times on this website that AMCAS for the most part trusts you to determine which classes count under which headings. For example, if you have a class that was listed under the Psychology department at your school but it was actually a lot of Biology (i.e. psychophysiology or a neuroscience class), you should be able to designate it "biology". Unless there is an obviously wrong label, what I understand is that AMCAS won't change it. So use your own judgment to figure out how to designate things if you feel the guidelines they use don't fully match your courses.

So... does that mean we can use both upper divs and lower divs?

If you can't figure this out, maybe medical school isn't the best choice...
