Hi everyone--
Ok I'm a little confused. Once you click "Pay and E-deliver" on the AADSAS site what happens? Here are my questions:

1) Do you get a confirmation # right then, or do you get something in the mail?

2) Is that number, your "# in line" to the dental schools? For example: If you get # 3,000 does that mean there are 3000 people ahead of you? Or is it just completely random?

3) What do you do next? Should I wait for a confirmation of acceptance from the dental schools?

4) If I'm taking the DAT's later on, will I not even get my secondaries until then?

I'm asking these questions, because I feel that I might not know of something I have to do and then get screwed.

Thanks guys!

A room full of wild monkeys rifles through your data, and with your payment of a few hundred dollars, then it gets randomly mashed into an envelope and crudely mailed out to what you hope are the schools you designated before you hit the "send" button. Nah, just kidding.

1. You do not immediateley receive a confirmation number. I had to call a couple of weeks later and obtain mine.

2. That number records how many people before you have already applied - therefore if you are applicant # 3001, 3000 people have previously submitted their application.

3. After you hit the send button there is not a whole lot that you can do. The schools need your application and, most often, all of your supporting materail (e.g. LOR's) before they will arrive at a decision to send out a secondary application and so on.

4. Your DAT scores are one piece of a puzzle that is your file; without them it is incomplete and I can't imagine there are too many schools that will allow you to advance in the application process sans those magic numbers.

You're not screwed if you have kept up on the application process - i.e. already have your LOR's in hand, mailed off transcripts, and so on.

Thank you so much. I already sent off my LORs and my transcripts to AADSAS. So, all I'm waiting for is my application. Should I fax in my DAT scores to the dental schools the day after I take them? If so, how will I know if they got it?

yea, you should send your DAT scores as soon as they are available. I faxed my DAT scores to each school last year instead of waiting for them to get my official DAT scores. I would recommend you call after you fax to make sure they have received your faxed scores. Schools will work with your faxed scores on your application and so it helps to fax them as they are available.

I hope this helps. Good luck!

I would call around first. I talked to an admissions officer at Iowa who said that she can actually pull up my scores on a secret website within a week of my taking the exam. Though she said that faxing them would be fine, she also stated doing so would be a lot of unnecessary leg work - that and they don't look at applications until well into August. Truth is it didn't take the ADA three weeks to get my scores out the schools either.
