What happens if you fail the NAVLE??

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hi there,
Is there is any one who can give me some light and direction. I am in the verge of a decision making.
I have been unsuccessful with my NAVLE attempt for the last three times. Now as per the NAVLE retake policy for Florida board i cannot take the date in Decemeber but only in April 2015. But as you know there is an option by appearing the exam through Newyork board and then transfering the score to Florida. As they accepts the score of 4th and continous exam takes from another board.
Can any one suggest me whether I am taking a wise decision here. I mean is there is any hidden problem associated with violating the policy of NBVME? I mean I need to get to work as a vet as soon as possible and waiting till April 2015 is too much for me. I know that I cannot practice in some of the states like Texas by taking a date in Dcemeber 2014 and passing the exam.
Your suggestions are most awaiting as If I can take the date for Dcemeber I need to do that before this month end.
Look forward to hear from you.
Many thanks

Will you be ready to take it in December? Even if you can, it might not be your best move.

Hi thanks for the reply Dyachei. I have been preparing. I will start doing vetprep this month. I was doing zuku last time. So you think less time for Decemer from now? Yes Kpowell I spoke with NBVME and they too say it is all my decision becuase by appearing the exam I will loose applying few states like Texas (otherwise it is all fine). Now the decision is on my hand. I have been reading Pasquini small animal medicine and will finish reading once by this month middle. I will start vet prep by this week. I used zuku last time. Considering all these what you suggest, shall i take the date? Also can you suggest some study protocols you guys followed. Actually i am really getting discouraged with my failures. So your thoughts are very helpful.

It depends on how ready you feel. Only you know how the last test went and what areas are weak for you. It may be worth your time to seek out a tutor if you've used a program before and had issues.

Have you used the practice tests you can by from ETs or NVME or whoever the official people are? There's three of them that you can buy for $50 each. It might be a good idea to take full advantage of them. Take one now to identify your weak spots. Take one half way, and the last one just a week or two before your test date. It'll not only help with content, but also testing skills/strategy in case that was your problem.

Thank you Minnerbelle and dyachei. I am doing Vet prep and I am doing NBVME also. Do you think reading books like guide to small animal clinics/equine clinics/bovine clinics are worth? I mean now till the exam or just doing vet prep and nbvme q are enough. Last time most of the time reading books. How you guys prepared and succeeded, please let me know.

I did vet prep and knew their power pages well. Make sure you are comfortable with all the math questions as well as the areas that you may not use in practice...knowing the difference in chicken diseases may be the difference between passing or not. I also used Mosby's books to go through my weaker areas like equine medicine. I made sure to make it through all the questions and practice exams.

I just did zuku, and worked on the big major species (dog, cat, horses) that make up a majority of the exam. If you haven't done so, it may be worthwhile for you to look up the break down of the test. Then the last 2 weeks or so, I did all the questions for the minor species. Only thing else I did was the full length tests to make sure that I was projected to pass with a good margin.

Thank you Dyachei and Mnnerbelle. I am spending a major portion of my time reading books. Now onwards I am focusing on questions and refering books when ever gets time. Is that right? The only problem with NAVLE is that if at all I am not scoring good at the last NBVME mock test i.e. 4 weeks before the exam I cannot cancel my exam date right?

I did 60ish % of vet prep. What was helpful for me:
When I got a question wrong I'd write out the correct fact in a notebook, or some info about the topic I was fuzzy about.
Then I would review the notebook - it was a condensed version on everything I was weak on.
It's just an idea that might help - everyone studies differently though.

Thank you lailanni, I think that is a very good method. I have been loosing a pass score just for 2 or 3 marks. So finally desiding to take a date in December. Wish me luck!
Many thanks
