what happens in august?

i'm applying to med schools this summer and was wondering, will much happen in august?
i already submitted my AMCAS and its been verfied. I expect that I'll get secondaries sometime around mid-july.
anyway, I wanted to go on vacation in august and was wondering what will be going on then. will interviews be starting already? or will schools still be sending out secondaries?

Most of the secondaries for me last year came in August...I was verified mid July.

in august, if you've submitted your SCAMCAS already, you will probably have all your secondaries in hand by the end of august. consequently i'd suggest having them all DONE by early september. i started getting 2ndares in mid july and finished it all by summer's end.

a small handful of schools probably will be interviewing in august (i think umich, vandy, the texas schools, and jefferson were some schools i can think of that were interviewing very early on last year).

and mostly likely the first wave of rejections from schools that screen for secondaries will probably be in or around mid august, as with if i remember correctly the great SDN Stanford Massacre of 2002.

It depends on if your secondaries all get sent in the mail or are online. In Texas, they were all online, so we just filled them out as soon as our apps were sent in. I was done with everything in early July and had several interviews in early and mid August.

I recall being quite busy with the application process during August. I did almost all my secondaries in the first two weeks. If you go at the end of the month and do all the secondaries you've received before you go, you will probably be OK. If you have e-mail access while away, that will be even better, b/c most of your schools will send interview invitations by e-mail, so you should miss very little. Most of my invitations came in September, anyway. Good luck!
