What if I only match Ty/prelim?

As a backup I added some of my TY/prelims to the bottom of my list.

My question is if I fail to match radiology but match into an intern year will I have the option to SOAP into a PGY2 program? Or will they simply tell me that I "matched" on Monday?

If that scenario happens the NRMP will tell you that you partially matched on Monday and you could then SOAP into a PGY2 radiology program. I have heard that the NRMP will even tell you which city you matched for your intern year.

This is surprising if true, not something I've heard of. That almost tells you what program you're matching into.

This is just something I saw from another SDN post a while ago so I can't claim it is definitely true. But I could see how it would be helpful for the applicant (and would also possibly identify the program you matched too) if it is true when selecting an advanced residency location wise.

I'm the one that posted about having a friend matched radiology but failed to get an intern year. They told him he matched in city X so he was then able to get an intern year in the same city.

I was just curious about what happens if it's the opposite. It would suck to "match" on Monday to then only find out that I only matched a prelim year without radiology since I technically would be matching into a prelim year from my main match ranking list.

That's not a publicly known option for anyone other than couples match participants. Can anyone else corroborate this?

I know it is an option if you partially match, you can call and ask for city in hopes of not having to move twice.
