What if your Dean's letter doesn't go out in time?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
How many schools don't get their dean's letter out on Nov 1?

Since Nov 1 is on a weekend, I suspect most schools either sent them out at the end of the business day on Friday or will get them out by early on Monday. Programs will plan to start looking at them sometime this coming week, so few med schools are going to drag much beyond this.

Personally, I think it's a crime if a Dean;s office doesn't have the MSPE done by now. The Nov 1 deadline is the same every year, you'd think they'd have a system down by now. If they're waiting for a 4th year grade, better to send out the dean's letter now and then update it when the 4th year grade is in.

I just logged into my ERAS page and found that my MSPE has not been uploaded to my post office. There was no other time during the day that I could check it, as I'm on a gyn rotation and have been in the OR all day. I called and left a message on the machine at my school's student affairs office. One of my programs (one of my top programs, actually) has a Nov. 1 deadline. Am I going to be penalized for this?! They've already invited me for an interview. Just a liiiiitle nervous...

If you've already been invited for an interview then don't sweat it. They will get it long before they have to make ranking decisions based on it, so they won't care. It's only for folks that haven't heard from them yet that failure to get things complete could result in a rejection.

For reasons unknown, I have not yet received my last 3rd year grade-absolutely absurd situation. I asked my school to go ahead and release my letter today without that grade. They were very reluctant but did it- said they'd update it when that grade comes in.

Thanks. That makes me feel a bit better. I'm still upset, partially because I know that the MSPE has been complete for a couple of weeks now (the administrative person in charge of them sent us an email), and partly because I only have 8 interview invites and was hoping to get a few more. Feeling a bit screwed by my institution at the moment.
