I have been dreaming about next semester ever since I got the interview at ICO. As of next friday, I have enough credits to graduate with a BS in biology and a minor in chemistry and philosophy, plus all the prereqs for OD school. Lets say ICO sends me a letter saying I'm in, should I finish the semester? I will have all the needed class. If I don't go next semester it will save a lot of money, plus I could actually be at home a semester before I have to move to Chicago. I could also work full time and build up my bank account. I'm not sure what I want to do. I am scheduled to take physiology, virology, bioterrorism, sign language II, and finish up my research, nothing I need, just some stuff I would like to take. Give me your input.

Take...the...semester...off...need I repeat?🙂

I agree with Tyra, take the semester off, and recharge for from grueling years ahead🙂

I agree with Tyra and Simisn! Think about it -- you've got an 8-month block of time that has no strings attached. You will have already been accepted to ICO, so nothing you could do during those months would affect getting into optometry school (except maybe if you end up in prison for some reason 😉 ). So those months are FREE! Take the time off to relax and enjoy yourself, you never know when you'll have unobligated time off like that again. Do something you'd never do otherwise -- take pottery classes, learn to ice skate, train for a marathon, whatever -- and enjoy! 😀

Stay in school...and live it up! if you don't you'll fall out of the loop.

Take 7 hours and go out most every night. Oh wait, that was my last semester at college.

If I stay, I have to go full time (12 cr.) or I lose my apartment. It is school owned and to live in them, you must be full time. I'm only signed-up for 12 credits now, it will be a nice brake from the 19 credits I'm carrying now.

I don't know if I would fall out of the loop, it is only a semester. I bet it is like riding a bike, once I would start again I would be fine.

I would really like a semester off, I have gone full time every semester and taken at least 6 credits every summer, last summer I took 9!!! I'm kind of a workoholic. A semester of just working and playing would be fun. All my friends here want be to stay and just help them with their classes...right. We will see, the only real reason I would stay if I got into ICO, would be to finish my research. I have enough to get a publication, but I would like to do some more. I plan to talk to my supervising prof and see how much longer it would take to get what we have planned done.

Sorry to bore you with my entire life!!! Thanks for reading. 😀

rpames, did you end up taking a semester off?

I decide to stay, am I crazy? I found out I got in on the second day of the semester so I still had, and actually still have, time to drop the class. I figured taking physiology would really help next me next year when I have to take it again. The prof is one of the best profs on campus and is also just a nice guy, my other classes are pretty cool too. Finishing my research really was the driving force. I met with my supervising prof. and we discussed what we wanted to get down. I want to be a part of it to the end so I can feel like I really deserve having my name on it.

I summary...I'm still in Iowa!🙄
