  1. Pre-Podiatry
I know this is a common question, but i have to ask...
I am going into my senior year of my biology bachelors and plan to start applying to podiatry school sept 1. I have a 3.7 science GPA, 100's of hours with a highly regarded podiatrist, and did all that while being FCA President and playing on a football scholarship. That being said, what if i bomb MCAT (taking it Aug 6)?? Say i get something like a 15-18, what are my chances of still getting accepted somewhere? Thanks!

The MCAT is the hardest test that you could possibly imagine taking. People with comparable GPA's as yours bomb the MCAT on a regular basis; however, with your science GPA, i believe that you would have to work really hard to score below a 25.

Don't take this test lightly, study hard, study long, and you will be fine. Keep in mind that if you were a Pre-Med, like most of us, that we have taken no classes to prepare us for Verbal Reasoning. With your scGPA and my experience (having a similar GPA), focus on VR.

You would get accepted somewhere with a good GPA and applying early. You won't bomb it. You seem like a hard working and dedicated individual with all you have going on in your life. Just keep doing what you are doing and don't get addicted to SDN, put the time into studying for the MCAT. Good luck!

I highly doubt people with a 3.7 gpa "bomb" the MCAT all the time, at least in regards to the pod school requirements. If you have a 3.7 and all the other stuff, go ahead and "bomb" the MCAT and get a 25 and get in to any school you want.

If you have a 3.7 and get less than that, then you really messed up. (NOTE: I am not saying he nor any other pod person who did the same is a *****)
Take a previous posters advice and make sure you pay attention to the VR section. Learn how to take the MCAT, since a 3.7 means you have already probably learned the material the MCAT tests.

Relax, study and apply early.

Yes, i've been pre-med but technically its going to say B.S. Biology on degree lol. And i have been going through the Kaplan book faithfully, I just know that this test is a beast of it's own and it doesn't matter how much i know. I just don't want to have gotten so close and done so well and be held back because of a dang test! But thank you all!

Having a high science GPA doesn't really mean you won't bomb it. I have a 3.88 science GPA but because of my lack of mental math skills (I still add on my fingers) and the fact that we couldn't use a calculator I was scoring seriously low on practice tests before I really pushed myself to learn mental math. If you know mental math, you might be OK.

😕

ya, im not so much worried about my knowledge of the material as i am the way the test is formatted - some of the questions seem like foreign language lol...
i just want to do good enough to not take me out of candidacy for pod school

why not take the mcat late august or early september. Those 4-5 weeks would probably give u a good score boost. Applying in october is still considered early right?

i timed my studies and all that to where i just finished the whole kaplan book gna take the practice tests everyday these next 2 wks and be fresh going into it

applying in december or january is considered early. People are still getting in and some schools start in a few weeks. The fact of the matter is that this is podiatry admissions. While I do think admissions standards probably increased slightly this year, come on people. It is one thing if you are taking the MCAT in august, hoping you do well and applying MD/DO. If you are set on podiatry, take as much time as you want to feel comfortable and then take it.

Obviously you should have focused more on VR, seeing as how I wrote a disclaimer NOT calling you a *****. Now, however, I rescind my original comment. Yes, you are a ***** who posts *****ic stuff.
