Do you think it's a bit over the top to fill out the application for Walmart, CVS, Walgreens and HyVee online and then still deliver a note and resume in person to each of the above? All the stores told me they are very sorry and have no openings right now but I'm determined that if I push a little, they maybe will make some room for me. I'm in a small university town and there is only 4 pharmacies and none of them are 24/7 (other than the hospital).

I would apply one at a time. You never know who's friends, and if they all get your application at the same time, they may talk to each other about you. Remember, pharmacy is a small profession. What if someone doesn't want to hire you for some reason and then tells the other pharmacists?

Unfortunately, I don't know anything about the university town. Are there any hospitals that you could work at? What about a university pharmacy?

Being persistent is hit or miss. Some employeers will like that you do not give up and some employeers might get annoyed that you did not listen, especially if they just told you they weren't hiring.

It is not a bad idea to drop a resume off though, so when a position opens up they have your info.
