I just found out today that I've been placed on hold at my state school University of Maryland...and I'm really confused. I've had a total of 12 interviews so far...and have collected a total of 5 holds and 1 acceptence.

I'm pretty confident that my interviews went well, my stats are ok, and I've already been admitted to Cleveland Clinic...so I thought that I'd have a really good chance of getting into UMD. I'm REALLY dissappointed that I've been placed on hold...especially after getting some high profile interviews at top schools.

🙁

It doesn't make sense to most of us. You got into one great program though so far and it sounds like a number are still up for grabs! Congrats and I hope those holds turn into accepts.

-dope-

What university do you go to right now? Im at UMCP

Dang that sucks though....hopefully that hold will turn into something better come the spring semester

Graduated from a top 10 school this past May...yeah...I'm hoping for the best and I'm going to write them a letter of interest or whatever...

Good luck to you too!

taht really sucks man........this process is really hard and i know i should have more self confidence in myself but it seems that everyday that passes my chances are slipping away......im now resorting to harassing deans and admissions officers ........... but 12 interviews jesus! you are bound to get in somewhere, march does seem far now, but it'll come!!! :luck:

Sorry to hear that Electophys 🙁 Maybe UMD thought you wouldn't attend cause you're getting interviews at some top schools? Maybe your letter of interest will help. Good luck :luck:

Sorry, Electrophys; i'm really surprised, especially because you have so much interest from other schools. But, don't despair -- you may still be accepted, but might have to wait a bit longer. Writing a letter of interest is a really good idea.

Did you find out over the phone, or did you receive a letter? Is hold different from WL at UMD?

For now, just concentrate on your remaining interviews, and think positively! That's all you can do to stay sane in this process. Good luck :luck:

Thanks for all the encouragement guys...its surprising how much difference a few kind words can make. I was REALLY depressed earlier when I found out, but I feel a lot better now.

I basically got a letter saying that I'm not accepted...NOT waitlisted...but that my file is still active...so I'm actually kinda confused what this means. The letter said my file was reviewed but basically no decision was made...

Thanks again for the kind words!! Still hoping for the best!

Good luck to everyone! 👍

My friend got the exact same letter. I told him that he could still be accepted. I think it means that they like you, but they still want to see the rest of the applicant pool before giving you a decision. At any rate, I'm still hoping you hear good news from them soon :luck:

its probably cuz you're *too* qualified. believe it or not, but i have one friend who got rejected by his state schools because he was too stellar (he called to inquire)...i'm talking about 39 MCAT, 4.0, tons of research, leadership, clinicals experience, etc

Don't worry yet. I had an interview at UMD this week and the admissions officer said that they are very conservative about the initial acceptances. Apparently, Dr Foxwell likes the class size to be 150 (not 151). So they are more stingy at first. Hopefully they will be sending you something soon.
