Since interview season is once again upon us and the board has been busy with the interview question of "Why DO" / "What is a DO"? I thought I would share some book titles on the subject that helped me. They are:

1. Osteopathic Medicine: An American Reformation by George Northup

2. The Difference a DO Makes by Bob Jones

3. The DO's (not sure of the author)

Do you ever get tired of trying to be the class clown? Especially when 99% of your posts aren't even amusing.

Seeing some of the stupidity that passes as intellect on this forum and on another that will not be mentioned, a little humor is required to lighten things up plus it will keep it at the top. Once this thread hits page 2 there will be a new thread on "What is a DO?"

I agree with you and I admit TT's posts used to give me a chuckle once upon a time. Back then, his smartass comments were clever. It seemed that when he had something clever to say, he'd say it and if he didn't, then he wouldn't. Now, it's like he's in a hurry to post a smartass reply to every post that hits the board that he's just become obnoxious. It's like the kid at the pool who's cute and you enjoy watching him at first and then he starts in with all the "look at me! Look at me! Look what I can do! Look at me! No, don't look at him! Look at me! Look at me!" Most of his posts aren't even funny. They're just there because he's screaming for people to notice him.

The Difference a DO Makes is -in my opinion- the best book to read for DO applicants. It's short and to the point. It's like a Cliffs Notes for The DOs (by Norman Gevitz).

The Gevitz book is definitely required reading, but only if you're a DO student. If you're thinking of applying and want to know more about the profession, I would definitely go with the Jones book.

I too agree that The DO's is a must read. I just finished it last week. It's a great exploration of the evolution of osteopathic medicine in America. Definitely not a light read though. Would "The Difference..." be a good read for me as a DO student?

It can be read in one day easily and contains all the critical information from the Gevitz book in a condensed, less academic tone.
