What is a good speech topic regarding pharmacy

Hi I'm in a communications class and I have to give a speech topic about anything I want. I want to give a speech on something pharmacy related though.

My last speech was a persuasive speech on choosing generics over brand name drugs.

Does anyone have a good speech topic? It needs to be deep enough so I can talk about it for 10-12 minutes and it needs to be relevant to my audience (19-22 year old college students).

Thanks a lot guys for any ideas

How about Plan B? The pros/cons/indications/time frames of effectiveness/ways to access availability, etc..

Finally, you could mention the current controversy within the federal govt & the political machnations in attempting to make it OTC which brings up political motivations with regard to what drugs are licensed & readily made available in the country.

It might be hard to cut it down to 10-12 min, but you could try. It would certainly be relevant to the 19-22 yo college student!

edited to add: communications is all about how you present your topic to your target audience. This topic is spun as many times as one can spin it to fit an audience - a good topic not just from a pharmaceutical perspective, but also from a communications perspective.

Ok.. Information technology utilizing computers and barcodes revolutionized our retail industry. Look at Wal-Mart. If you used your credit card to purchase something, Wal-Mart knows what you bought, when, where, and what you were wearing when you were there.

At many hospitals, sometimes we're not really sure when Mrs. Jones received her Prinivil 10mg..and we have to rely on written documentation of a very tired and un-enthusiastic nurse who's been fighting radiology, pharmacy, housekeeping, materials management, and rude physicians all day long.

Hospitals are now just starting to catch up to retail industry.... 25 years behind.

Wouldn't you think that the healthcare industry should be the one leading the country in technology to provide better care of customers?

I was in a similar class last semester and I talked about the new psuedophedrine laws and meth precursor act which were pretty new in Illinois at the time, there was also a federal law passed pretty recently. I'm not sure if home meth labs are as big of a problem in California (is that where you're from?) as they are here in Illinois. There are lots of good distrubing images involved with meth production and use so it should hold their attention pretty well.

How far away is Dallas from Austin? I'm visiting this Winter. Maybe I'll drive around and rape your women....er...uh...take pictures. That reminds me....those little fascists are going to charge me $25 extra a day to rent a car because I'm 23. I can dispense Morphine and tell old people with alzheimers how to use a glucometer, but renting a car is a little too much of a task for me. You darned old people and your rules.

Austin to Dallas is about 3 hours..give or take an hour depends on the traffic.

Come take a tour of our facility. I'll take you to a PF Chang's down the road.

Then I can drop you off at the D&B.

Women actually get along with me rather well. They call me "essentric" and it grants me greater license to be a little bastard. "Oh, Mike, hehe, he's crazy!"

You know the gay guy that got to grope those women on the red carpet? It's the same concept but substitute gay with crazy, grope with make fun, and red carpet with work.

Hey I was going to do Plan B, but then i realized it might be too controversial for my teacher. He said DON"T do abortion because you can't change people's minds about it and I was worried of maybe venturing into that territory if I did plan B.

What about if I did a persuasive speech on how some herbal medications can be dangerous and you should watch out?
