Some schools say that they will accept a packet of letters from your school's "letter service." What is this?

I have my letters submitted to a confidential file on campus. Is this a "letter service?" On most applications, I have just been listing the name of the people writing the letters for me. But Wake's secondary says to either list 2 recommenders and the letters must be submitted on their forms (my LOR's have already been turned into my file), or to put the name of the school's LOR service.

Also, for Wake, can we only submit 2 LOR's: 1 science and 1 non-science? Or is this the minimum, and if so, what is the max. number of letters?

SDN has become a wonderful resource for my questions. So thanks everyone!

a Letters of Reference service should be a service at your school's career center. Basically, you have all of your recommendation letters sent there and then from there you shoudl be able to forward those letters to whatever schools you want. It helps ensure that it's confidential and could possibly be more convenient. Though, UCLA charges you a ton for the letters you send out through their LOR service =P

Okay, thanks! That's what we have. Didn't realize that's what it was called thought... d'oh! Guess I made a mistake on my previous application! 😡

So, even though Wake says to send in just 2 LOR's, if we have a Letter Service, can I submit as many letters as I want?? (I have 5).

Unless they explicity say "No more than X number of letters", you can send extras in.

I think it was Wake that also told me on the phone if you don't have a non-science academic letter, you could send in volunteer letters, they just want to know how you behave in other situations.
