What is a non-traditional student?

Hey guys,

What exactly is a non traditional student? I tried searching but couldn't find a clear definition. I'm a mechanical engineering undergrad student with 9 months of internship experience - would that mean I qualify?

In general, non-traditional students are usually older in age. Many have already had a long-standing career, with family.

Quote from the medical school at Michigan State on the subject: "This university seriously considers non-traditional applicants because of their maturity, the diversity they add to the class, and the life experiences they bring."

As far as I can tell, you wouldn't be considered non-traditional.
