Hey,

I came across the term "solid organ" in the context of pale infarcts.

What is a solid organ? If organs are not solid, what are they?

Solid organs are...solid, e.g. liver, spleen, kidney. The opposite of a solid organ would obviously be a hollow organ, i.e. something with a lumen, like the gallbladder, bowel, etc.

The only context I've really heard the terms is with regard to choosing abdominal imaging modalities (admittedly, I don't remember the specifics) and in trauma - solid organ injury is more likely to cause hemorrhage (because they are relatively more vascular than hollow organs), whereas hollow organs can spill the contents of their lumen and cause peritonitis.
