First and foremost I am writing this with some fear as we all know how threads regarding rankings turnout.

Now to my question: I've seen the term "Graduate of Top 40 NIH Research Intensive Medical School" used in NRMP documents discussing match statistics. What exactly are the "Top 40 NIH Research Intensive Medical Schools"? Is this simply the top 40 NIH funded medical schools? I'd prefer a simple answer to a hopefully simple question and not someone preaching about importance/unimportance of rankings please.

Thanks

I have heard a rumor that some top 20 research schools require a semester of NIH research or it's hard to get in.

Can anybody verify this please?

Most definitely only a rumor. There's plenty of research being done that doesn't involve being at the NIH, and if they required it, it'd be in the MSAR.

I don't think the request for this data was pressing seeing as the post was four years old. :dead:

As a side note, why is UCLA's $$$$ so much higher than other institutions?

Note that that list has some issues. Harvard is listed as only $70M, but that excludes all of its affiliate hospitals--including those would catapult it well past all of the others.
