What is AMCP all about?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
What they do is formulary management. Hope that means something to you.

AMCP looks at medication management from the cost effective perspective- so yes, formulary management is a valuable tool that utilizes this principle. The organization takes a very "macro" look at patient care- advocating for MTM reimbursement, healthcare reform, etc.

Pharmacists in AMCP range from those working in MCOs & PBMs to MSLs working for Pharma. So yes, managed care is "business" oriented, but very clinical and as well.

I read in a pamphlet from AMCP that they also take part in outcomes research. I thought that that had to do with clinical trials for drugs.

What are the thoughts on paying for a professional organization membership? Why not simply join the pharmacy school chapter and be active in that?

That refers to following up to see if the treatment therapy/protocol had the intended/beneficial effect and how compliant the patient is being with the treatment therapy/protocol. The idea is to have "standardized" treatment protocols with proven efficacy.
