I mean, what exactly do I do in an externship. And will it help me get into the program I want if I take my externship there? Thanks.

When should this be done? When does the application cycle open for specialties?

You apply the summer/fall of your 3rd/4th year...match is January/February of your 4th year to matriculate 5 months later.

Externships are typically done your 2nd/3rd year...though some allow 1st year.

Generally theyre 2 weeks long. The competitive programs require you to apply for them
