Trust me I know this is a bad question...but for GPA purposes what exactly is considered a science course....is it just the regular chem, physics, bmb, kind of stuff.. Or would my computer science courses, or information science courses count? I don't consider them "science" but it is what the schools consider them that matter to me....(just trying to calculate gpa stuff right now) Thanks for your time! MossPoh

computer science/IT is not calculated in the science GPA for AMCAS.

I believe the science GPA for AMCAS refers just to "natural science", and you may be able to get away with including some behavioral science in there if the course title sounds a bit "natural sciency".

Best of luck!

so i guess calculus is out of the question?

Actually, on AMCAS they calculate your BCPM grades. These are ANY classes that are biology, chemistry, physics, or math. I think that for computers and engineering they have a separate distinction. But on AMCAS you can look up what you should list your courses as.

Oh yeah, and math counts too. I guess I blocked out anything math related in my head... boo math.

You have to call AMCAS and ask them if you aren't sure about a course for calculation in the BCMP category. Nobody here can tell you anything for sure because the AMCAS is a god.

If you did well in that class, I would mark it under BCPM since you can easily make the argument that Math includes Statistics. The worst that can happen is the AMCAS people in fact do not consider that class for your BCPM GPA.

Bottom line, though, is that the AMCAS people are going to fit your courses into what THEY consider BCPM and Other, regardless of what you submit. BUT on grayer/fuzzier classes such as Stats or some Behavioral Science classes, initially submit them in a way that makes your BCPM GPA the strongest.

If you go to the help section of AMCAS, there is a whole section that explicitly tells you what classes to list under the different categories. 👍

It's all very easy if you just read the manual!

Starting on page 71 is a list of subjects and whether or not those subjects are considered BCPM material.

Statistics is listed under the math subheading, which is clearly marked as BCPM.

Honestly, while there are a very few classes that are ambiguous, the vast majority of the "is this or isn't this BCPM" questions can be answered with by the instructions.

would a course like human variation which is ANT count because everything we did went back to Bio.

You could try calling and asking but I doubt it. Anthro's pretty clearly listed under BESS and not BCPM. Lots of subjects that have BCPM underpinnings aren't in themselves considered to be BCPM classes.

In general, if you have taken stats through the math or statistics department, then it is a BCPM. All other stats classes---business, psych, anthro, etc...---are calculated under the non-science GPA, regardless of the material covered.

Ok all..thanks for the replies
