What is considered a significant improvement on an amcas application? For example, my biggest weakness was my MCAT score and slightly under GPA. To try and improve my application, I'm retaking the MCAT to try and increase more points, and my GPA went up slightly, plus I'm trying to rewrite my PS. Is that enough? What else can I do?

If you look at my links below, I think I did all that I possibly could in a year, but I was thinking about having to reapply last fall, just in case. By the time it is time to reapply, it's already too late to improve your app. I would say that if you improved your MCAT, then you should be alright. but just my opinion...

I think you need something that's going to help you stand out. And seriously consider the OD option as I backup. It's really expensive to reapply and if you do worse on the MCAT is will be doom. Honestly speaking though, I've been in your shoes...I retook the MCAT, upped it to a 28, started a masters after finishing a fellowship at the NIH..and still got waitlisted everywhere. Now I'm finishing my PhD and am planning on applying to an OD...their application process is much later in the year, it I don't get in...but I'm 99.999% sure I will. If your heart's set on an MD, and the carribean is out, think about waiting a year if you don't think you have a good shot.

Also, apply to every school you can think of. Better to fork over an extra 500 now than to have to do it again in the future.

Just my opinion.
