All of the above are absolutely terrible. Staring at the ceiling and talking, forgetting to shake the interviewers hand, not sitting straight up, BSing ur answer instead of asking for afew sec to gather ur thoughts and not being honest cuz they will know !

Don't forget not answering the question and going off on complete tangents. Also, fumbling with your answer and not being completely articulate.

Just show some good mannerism and be yourself. If you're not already articulate, there's nothing you can do now that will let you change the way you speak. Best thing is to be calm and speak naturally. Remember, they're not looking for someone who speaks in a sophisticated like manner. As a dentist, you'll be speaking to all different kinds of people.

I spoke with the interviewer about a student that spoke with such a heavy accent I wasn't sure how he made it through the interview. I was told that they couldn't understand hum, but couldn't hold it against him because his answers might be brilliant, their ability to understand was what held them back from knowing if it was or not so had to give high marks for the responses. He did get in and graduated just fine. 😕

What do you mean by "brilliant answers"?

So if i speak with heavy accent and throw some smart words in between, they will think of me as brilliant and accept me? +1 for being international 🙂

I recently had a group interview at LECOM. We were in a group of six, sitting at a round table where everyone could face each other. From that experience, It was interesting to see just how many people truly do have lacking interview skills.

Some people completely failed at making eye contact with the interviewers, or with any of the other 5 interviewees! One guy was taking notes on a notepad the whole time and reading his responses off of the note pad! Weird. I noticed 2 people slouching in their chairs. C'mon, you gotta sit up straight, look alert and make eye contact. those things are key!

The best interviewees were the ones who engaged the entire group. They acknowledged the interviewers who asked the questions, and they also would make eye contact with the other 5 people at the table as they spoke. The best responses were brief and did not go on on long winded tangents.
