Hobbies. Sports. Leisure Activities. Like being an expert chess player. Weight lifting. Fishing. Bottle-cap collecting. These are some random non-academic activities I just thought of.

It depends on your achievements actually. Did you bang the person you where tutoring? If so, then no its not academic.
Research in a lab, well that's a tough one. The fact that you asked would suggest to me that it was not an academic pursuit. So no, absolutely not academic.
