I'm trying to figure out what to do for this summer and I was wondering what everybody else is doing. I do have pharmacy technician certification, but it seems really hard to get the job. I got certified last summer and could not get any jobs last summer. I'm still looking for things to do. I need to start making money and take some burden off my parents.

As for PCAT and applying for pharmacy schools, I'm on the waitlist for a school I applied for Fall 2011, so I feel like I don't have to worry about those.....I mean, I could take PCAT again in case I don't get in, but there is a possibility I could get in and I don't want to waste $100-200 in that case.

So what's everybody else doing??? 🙂

Starting school in the fall and working two jobs all summer to save up money. I'm trying to take out the least amount of loans possible 👍

Also reading a few books and going to vegas sometime mid June

Exercising like a madman.
Skimming through an old Biochem textbook.
Hoping my manager intends to schedule me for more than 10 hrs/wk.

We could try to hang out before school starts

Well, maybe. You get to work only 10 hours a week?

I will be volunteering in a pharmacy, working and studying for the july Pcat 😀

I might get PTCB certified. Maybe it's time to finally step foot inside a pharmacy.

Ditto !

One thing I'm worried about is getting a PTCB license this summer (I'm also applying to pharm school this summer) but not being able to work and get any actual pharmacy experience. Will schools take notice of my initiative to get licensed or do they want experience and that's it??

Do whatever as long as you're able to spin it in your favor at the school interview. Shadow for a few weeks too.

Taking public speaking the whole month of June. Working the retail gig. And hopefully finding time to be a beach bum before I head south in August.

Are you gonna get a tan? And be unrecognizable to your old friends on the first day of class?

😛Pharm Tech at Kroger....Trying to earn money for this fall and connection so next summer, i can intern in their store.😉

Yes I do agree that by just getting a pharmacy tech certification won’t provide you job. For that you really need to get into a hospital training program or a technical school for pharmacy technicians. But if you really want a job just for 2-3 months, I would suggest you to go for medical representative job. This anyways has a high demand and you’ll get it easily. In turn you would get a good knowledge about medicines and their compositions, which would definitely help you in future. Even you can continue it afterwards as a part time job, may be in the evenings after your school. But if you are looking for ‘work from home’ option, I can suggest you some.

I think finding a tech job, for just the summer, could be tough. It takes about 1-2 months just to train someone in at a pharmacy, if they have no previous experience. I'm not sure they would be willing to spend that amount of time, if you were only going to be there for 3 months.

I swear I answered this question before :meanie:

Work, research lab, IPPE rotation, Work, Reseach lab, Europe, Work, work, work...

2 summer sessions. English 2 and film THEN physics 2 and animal physiology. Maybe trying to find a place to get some volunteer time for ECs.

No work for me, school is still paying me enough with my other roomates :meanie:

EUROPE!??!? Hot dang girl, jealous.

Damn right. I might head to Amsterdam and get a little taste of what is coming to AZ... afterall, I might be investing in a dispensary :meanie: Need to know what I am getting into.

But really... the gf is going to Switzerland for 3 months for an internship at the WHO. I get to visit her in July and we are going to hit up Paris, Barcelona, and try very, very hard to get to Amsterdam.

Very nice!!! My wife is lobbying really hard to get a summer internship/assistantship with a firm that has a Munich office because she wants to visit family that lives there (lol) and I'm sad mad that I won't be able to go. Grrr!

Better take pictures =]

working, training, volunteering, learning most of the top 200 drugs brand/generic names, and looking forward to the start pharm school in august.

I'm studying for the July Pcat, while trying to find a hospital to volunteer in and a pharmacist to shadow...and taking an intro to lit. class. After July 27th, I will be free!

Working full-time in a hospital pharmacy, trying to save as much as possible while still making payments on my undergrad loans. I'll also probably try to go on a few weekend trips here and there throughout the summer before the insanity of an accelerated program begins :scared:

I don't tan, I red... and considering I'm entering my first year, I don't want the first impression on my classmates to be an oompa loompa :meanie:

It may be in your favor to make good first impressions. That way, you can be invited to study groups and/or parties. Even if you don't know everyone at first, enough people will talk about you if you're popular, a troublemaker, or a smart aleck

Have you looked to see if there's a facebook group for your class? If you wanted to, you could have discussions and questions on the group, and maybe talk to some of them this summer.

Work, chill at the beach for a week, quit my job, and get a lot of partying out of my system before school starts. 😀

Work, party, make up an incomplete grade, work, party, work out, party, work, work out, start packing, work, move to Cali, party...oh and party some more.😀

Better get it in now before I become inundated with pharm school stuff.😉😀

Don't meet too many strangers
So far I haven't had those moments when I woke up and thought "FML."
If it's enough for me to say "FML," I'll know I screwed up big time

guhh so jealous. i went to paris with a friend and our moms when i was 13, and they took the train to amsterdam while my mom decided she liked paris and wanted to stay. so mad... but i don't think i would've been able to exactly experience amsterdam back then away. haha

you are so lucky... barcelona sounds amazing. i am dying to go to europe again before i start working and being responsible, and it will definitely be to somewhere in spain.

Some people are obsessed with popularity and showing off. They also want attention from everyone at all times. It seems like, if they don't get enough attention from people, what they do doesn't have much meaning

So they'll post something they're doing or what they've done on FB, so they'll get a thousand 'like's and a million comments.

That sounds like my plan. Trying to make some cash and have a bit of a life before I get sucked into the madness that I anticipate will be pharmacy school.

I found out Friday that I have summer homework though 😡

I liked the part when you said party. 👍

I guess? That is different than what I interpreted your first post to mean though.

I partied a lot last summer because I thought I would never see the light of day once I started school... but then I realized that the parties just continue once you start school and have all these banquets, frat socials, bbqs, holiday events, fundraisers... etc. It's tiring. lol

Tink, we always seem to interpret our statements and opinions as something different than what we meant. Maybe that's why our arguments on chat never go anywhere

I can't get a job because I only will be in my hometown for six weeks, so I am writing a movie script and just visiting friends before I leave.

Back when you first were posting here on SDN your status was "Psychologist."

Seriously? I don't remember that. Weird. Must have been my subconscious desire for an even more saturated field. 😉

Heh... indeed.

The only reason I noticed in the first place is that as the holder of two (count 'em two) degrees in that field, I was genuinely curious why a Ph.D-holding psychologist would be on this forum. 🙂
