What is Harvard HST program??

I read their website, FAQ... and still not able to get the purpose of training Medical Students into Physical and Engineering Laboratories. Also, How long is it? and do they give any special certificates for HST graduate students?

Physicians should have an input on the engineering and design of devices and tools; if this is a master's program like a lot of schools offer, then it probably takes only one year in addition to the 4 years MD.

They're not gonna like my 3.5 though, engineering is a such a gpa killer.

It's pretty much for the elite of the elite. Very competitive and rewarding program from the looks of it. There was some professor at my university that got his MD from Harvard and PhD from MIT and he's easily the smartest person I've ever spoken to. You definitely have to have a special mind for research.

?? If we're talking about the medical school program, it's a four year program that leads to an MD degree. No special certificate as far as I know. But HST has a focus on biomedical research and I believe students take some classes at MIT.

It is definitely not an MD/PhD program.

It's a pretty math/quantitative approach to medicine designed for people that intend to go into academic medicine.

my PI graduated from that program. It's not PhD awarded but def a research oriented/academia oriented program. And yes he too is one of the smartest people I know....and he's good at hiding it >__<

I'm sure most of them get the MD at Harvard then continue their engineering PhD research over at MIT? That sounds like an absolute dream scenario for all of us I'm sure.
