Hi everyone,
I asked a poli-sci professor who I studied abroad with to write me a LOR and he agreed but his policy is to first make you write your own draft. The class did not have anything to do with medicine or healthcare but I did well and he did get to know me quite well from traveling and class. What purposes do non-science letters generally serve? Should I just include a balance of personal and academic comments? Must I find a way to relate EVERYTHING back to my ability to be a good doctor or only include the things that show that?

Anyone else have to write their own letter? Any help is appreciated! Thanks guys

I would love to also know what nonscience professors should write. My nonscience professor knows me pretty well but I'm curious what he should highlight on and relate that to medicine/med school.

Some of the things that non-science instructors see that science LORs may not:

small group projects
oral presentations in the classroom
writing papers including persuasive essays and analysis
willingness to participate in classroom discussion

Remember, medical school usually includes two years of didactic education in classrooms and laboratories and with simulators before you do anything with real patients and we are interested in how well you are going to do in those settings, too.
