What is my chance? I am not too impressed with my DAT score from 9/1

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
You are fine. Your RC might hurt you for a few schools but if you get invited for an interview make sure you have a good reason for it if they ask. You will get into dental school.

Hi guys,
I just took DAT and the score kinda worries me.

I am sure this is sucha mundane topic around this forum,

but since I would like to seek some advice here,

I will list my Stats

School: UCLA
Overall GPA: 3.7
Science GPA: 3.65
BCP: 3.67
DAT 20AA/21TS/22 PAT (I scored a lovely 17 on RC T.T)

I was getting 24s on kaplan practice tests so I really got dissappointed.
Oh and how much do schools weigh the PAT score relative to the DAT score?

Good luck to you all~

ur in the 20s ur good to go! trsut me! awesome job on ur PAT too.

I don't want to be rude or anything,
but these type of thread seems nothing more than bragging about one's stats. I guess since I have lower gpa and lower dat scores (even lower RC), I should stop dreaming of becoming a dentist? 🙄
It gets me really depressed.

John9192, I really didn't mean to brag. I just want to know where I stand solely based on numbers.
I get really depressed by looking at stats with 23+ too.

Thank you Ething and mrbubbles for your two cents.

How important is the PAT? my friend told me they weigh PAT more than DAT. Is that true?

Iwantmydds, we are on the same boat, I have similar stats like yours

School: UCI
GPA 3.78/ sGPA: 3.89
DAT: 20/22/18 with a 17 in RC.

That 17 worries me a lot. And I already got rejection from Loma Linda (pre-secondary), that really freaked me off.

Dude! U guys make me feel sad and depressed . Is there any chance for those who have low DAT scores.
My stats:
School:UCI
GPA 3.86/3.86
DAT:20/18/18 with a 15 in RC
I got rejected from LLU
If I were u guys, I would so happy with that scores. so dun worry too much. I think u guys will definitely get in somewhere.

You are fine. Even with cutoffs, I think the most stringent schools have it at 17 so you will make it anyways.

Just think about it this way: prestigious undergrad, great GPA, great DAT, whats not to like? a 20/22 is like 86 percentile AA and 97 percentile PAT, which imo is pretty impressive. I will be very surprised if you receive less than 5 interviews (well, unless you only applied to like 7 schools....)

Thank you jigabodo.
I do think that my stats are pretty decent if not good.
However, the reason I have doubts is because I applied around 25th of august and the apps still hasn't been sent to the schools. (I think my application is pretty late already)
Also, I am an international student. I have been in U.S. for almost ten years but I'm stilll classified as an international student. I don't know if this is necessarilly true, but people have been telling me that I need to have alot more outstanding stats compared to other fellows who have the U.S. citizenship.

I am still going to give it a shot because I dream of becoming a great dentist.

Hi guys,
I just took DAT and the score kinda worries me.

Remind me again, WHY ARE YOU WORRIED??!?!?! That's silly mate, you have just fine stats. Take a look at some other SDNers who havfe sub 3.0 or even dats with 17 or 18... Your fine, GOOD LUCK!

What would constitute a good reason for a low score in RC?

Well, in case you are an international applicant, your chance is siginficantly decreased. At least in UCSF website, they states that "chance for international applicant is slim"

Ah, a fellow Anteater. Your gpa is excellent and your DAT scores competitive so i wouldn't stress. RC is a very important section so you may get a couple of rejections because of that, but I'm confident you'll get into a number of decent schools. GL.

THDental, your GPA is also excellent. However, a 15 RC is on the low side and it might actually not make the cutoff at a number of schools (call to find out). Also, 18s are pretty average nowadays, so if you have time perhaps you should consider taking the test again. GL.

Haha, for future reference, these threads are usually flamed alot. Your scores are to above average to be worried and such a post only annoys the majority of those out there with scores lower than you. In anycase, you have nothing to worry about. GL.

Its true for state/public schools, but private schools really really dont care where the heck you are from. If you look at the website of USC, they tell you that international students are evaluated just like everyone else. I also just got an interview invite from case so at least that means I am up to their standard, and my undergrad/GPA is not as good as yours!

I think NYU, BU, Temple and numerous other private schools are also doing the same thing, dont let that international thing scare you.

The bottom line is, with your stat, you will have no problem at all getting into dental schools.

hi envision, would you please share your tips and is the RC 17 completely eliminated my chance to UCLA ?

Hi Hoak,

Your numbers look great. During my interview, UCLA mentioned their emphasis on the RC section. However, there is never any absolution when it comes to the application cycle. If your weak in one area, you'l have to compensate for it in another area. Hopefully the rest of your application looks as impressive as your GPA does. If so, you should be fine nonetheless. Gl dude.
