Hi everyone,

I'm new to this forum. I'm currently in the process of applying for medical school. I would like to know what is my chance of getting into medical school with my GPA/MCAT score and extracurricular activities:

Cumulative GPA: 3.86
Science GPA: 3.82
1st MCAT score: 505 (128 CP/122 CARS/ 127 BB/ 128 PS)
2nd MCAT score: waiting to hear back but I really don't think I did any better
Over 3 years as medical scribe for psychiatric division
I'm taking a gap year next year and will be working as a lead medical scribe for the same division
Medical interpreter for 2 years
350+ hours volunteering as general volunteer and nursing volunteer
200+ hours volunteering with my club at community health fairs
Fiscal coordinator for a large-scale culture night
Food coordinator for a large-scale cultural event
Entertainment coordinator for a club graduation
1 year of research in metabolic engineering
Study abroad in Japan for a quarter
Part of a dance team for 2 years

With my low MCAT score and low CARS score, do I stand any chance in getting accepted to medical schools in the U.S.? Also, I came to America 10 years ago and although I'm fluent in English, reading is still not my strength as evidenced by my low CARS score. I was wondering if the admission committee takes into consideration the fact that I am not a native speaker when looking MCAT CARS section?

I don't believe it is. Being from CA is tough. Your target should be DO schools, but it is still slightly possible to receive a couple of MD interviews if you apply broadly.

These are the schools I'm thinking of applying. Are there any other schools that you recommend I should apply?
Drexel
Oakland Beaumont
Rosalind Franklin
Loyola
Albany
Temple
New York Medical College
Howard
Hofstra
Rush

Id probably take of Howard because theyre geared towards URMs. Just make sure you apply to at least 7-8 DO schools, whichever ones you want (besides OK state and Ohio). Goro and Faha are better at giving an MD list than me

I didn't plan on applying to DO schools so I have zero DO shadow experience. Do you think I should I still apply?

I suggest applying to these schools with your stats:
Vermont
Quinnipiac
New York Medical College
Albany
Seton Hall
Drexel
Temple
Jefferson
Penn State
Georgetown
George Washington
Eastern Virginia
NOVA MD
Oakland Beaumont
Western Michigan
Medical College Wisconsin
Rosalind Franklin
Rush
Loyola
St. Louis
Creighton
Tulane
Loma Linda
California University (new school)
Kaiser (when they open)
UC Irvine
UC Davis
Also apply to at least 6 DO schools and you are competitive for all DO schools.
Post your 2nd MCAT score here when available.

Cyrus and Faha, thank you both for your help!

Just received my second MCAT score: 508 (CP 130/ CARS 124/ BB 125/ PS 129). Overall, I'm happy with it 🙂
I'm so glad it didn't go down and my CARS score went up

Nice job! now start looking at the secondaries for the list of schools faha mentioned and get prewriting!

Apply to all the schools I listed in June and submit all your secondaries by July and you should receive some interviews. Include at least 6 DO schools.
