What is NRMP?

ERAS asks if I "plan to participate in the NRMP match." I don't know what NRMP is and my google search about it has not helped. What is it and should I be doing it? I'm a US MD student applying to emergency medicine.

Short answer, yes you are. Your school/deans really should have gone over this with you. If you're applying to the match and you're not applying into Ophthalmology, Urology, or military, then you're applying to the NRMP match. Don't forget that this fall you also have to register with the NRMP (separate from ERAS), get your NRMP number and add it to ERAS.

NRMP

The NRMP uses a mathematical algorithm to place applicants into residency and fellowship positions. Research on the algorithm was the basis for awarding the 2012 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences.
