You mean you dont know!? Para-therapy is "beside", "around", or "near" therapy....

Never heard of this. Whatever it is, its not mainstream in clinical psych. Perhaps your friend was thinking of the field of parapsychology?

Update:
I found this on google

ParaTherapy
(or ParaTerapia in Spanish) is bodywork and massage therapy for people with challenged bodies and special needs, including persons in wheelchairs, amputees, people with HIV/AIDS and such life-altering illnesses as cancer and fibromyalgia, among others. Treatment methods will vary depending upon the condition and the location of treatment.[/SIZE].

I've heard paratherapy used as an umbrella term to cover things like self-help books, body work, reiki, community groups, etc.
