Also, why is my Accepting the offer has a due date that is a couple of months before the Second Look? I thought is would make sense for Second Look to happen first before I give them my Acceptance. Am wondering if this is typical.

You “accepting” the offer right now doesn’t really mean much. All it means is that you are still interested and would like to hold on to the spot. It is not binding, and you can accept multiple offers without penalty until April 15th, when you have to start narrowing.

It's so they can pull your acceptance out from under your feet if it turns out they actually hate you.

Just kidding. It's primarily for people with multiple acceptances to decide before the deadline to release all but one acceptance. Although you must "accept" the offer well before the second-look, it is not binding.

I thought that the AAMC Commit to Enroll deadline is June 1st, which is the deadline?

Second Looks are typically for people that are trying to decide between a small number of schools. Typically, the Second Look will have some degree of organized events and opportunities to spend time with students and family. At my medical school, we extensively planned the Second Look weekend and it included several events with opportunities to stay with students.

They are not necessary if you do not feel the need to go, and if you're only seriously considering one school, I would just save the money.
