Yo,

I am curious on how we can improve my school and bring something new and fun to it. I am curious if there is anything at your school you find memorable or just all around awesome? It could be a service provided, socials hosted, efforts taken etc. Just looking to drive up class unity and I was wondering if anyone had great experiences in something in particular. Thanks for your time!

A medical school gala which is kind of like a med school prom, but with unlimited free drinks and loads of other cool stuff.
Our school did this too. Had such a blast! 🙂

Students and professors here get together once a month for 2 hours to do workshops or discussions of their choice. Like student panels, or going into a simulation lab, or any other activity we wanted to do. And there's free food at every one. I enjoyed some of them. It was a nice way to unwind and get to know some of my professors and administrators who I might never talk to otherwise, as well as chill with students from the class below us.

We have a yearly ceremony for cadaver donations and their families. It's pretty intense (the families are understandably emotional) and it's student run so we take it pretty seriously. A lot of students worked together to come up with songs/writing to share with the families, so as far as class unity that helped. Added bonus on the unity bit, the ceremony put most of us in a somewhat fragile/contemplative state, so logically most of us made our way to the closest bar right after. Not sure if you guys do this or if it's student run, but if it's not I suppose that's something you can consider!

We have annual formal dinners that med students of all levels get embarrassingly drunk at, as well as a "No more BS" (basic science/ahem) party at the end of second year. These were fun and I thought was pretty cool.

Also an assigned preceptor you join one-on-one once a month during second year in your chosen specialty. That was also pretty cool. Mine had me seeing patients alone before him, writing notes, and comparing his assessment with mine after seeing them on his own after me. I'm hoping that was a really helpful starting point for third year.

It's not official, but our school did that. I was just so mad/pissed/exhausted after anatomy that I didn't want to go. That and I'd become completely detached from the patient I didn't think it wise going.
