Is it totally late for 05? Does anyone know if you can apply by mid December and still get accepted? Any school that is not late yet?

Theoretically the latest date, and still have a chance at matriculation, is the deadline for each school. Granted, your chances decrease after December, but I do know a couple of people that did it and are now in dental school. If you haven't sent your application in you will need to keep in mind the turn around time for AADSAS, which is between six and eight weeks (Some schools have a cut off date for submitting your AADSAS, e.g. OSU - as long as it is submitted by that date they will accept it).

I think by the end of the year, there will be less and less applications so the processing will be quicker. That's what happened to me during last cycle.
I applied to USC right before their deadline, and invited to their very last interview. Of course , I didn't get in. My stats were ok, but I didn't have a degree. Anyways.... If your stats are good enough, why not?

If you are a good candidate, schools will treat you like a King and there will be more favor on your application over other "average" applcants...
who knows... You will get invited earlier than them and get accepted right away... I think I read cases like this last year... yeah you can still get in man..

Pray for it.

You are asking an almost impossible to answer question. Unless your stats are pretty spectacular at this point, probably your chances are very, very slim. I am not trying to hurt your feelings, but this is true. Many schools have deadlines that end this month, where they need the AADSAS application in their hot little hands, not to mention your DAT. This is probably one of the most competative cycles yet just by looking at the size of the numbers the AADSAS is slapping on applications.

Also, the are fewer and fewer interviews to be fought over as the months roll by. I wouldn't bet on getting in this year if I were you, and if you choose to spend the money to apply, which is by all means your choice, you should plan on re-applying next year as well. If you feel that somehow you might have an "edge" or excellent stats that may make you shine like a diamond on a pitch black night, GO FOR IT! But don't place your heart on your sleeve as it is much too late in this cycle to be "starting" your application. You should be waiting for interviews about now or even better, gone to a few of them.

All of this of course is just my opinion, which it appears you are looking for with your initial thread. Take it from me, a person in their second application cycle, that applying early is of a major benefit. If you are indeed serious look up the schools that you would be applying and see what their deadlines are. Also, call and ask them how would they handle an application arriving to them in the next 3-4 weeks (AADSAS turn around time) and would it have a shot. That might help you better than "our" opinion here at SDN.

I believe you should still apply to schools for this cycle, but your options will be limited. I would recommend applying to only a couple of schools with really big entering classes and late deadlines such as NYU and Temple. If your stats are competitive, there is a good chance you will be asked for an interview. From what I understand, this cycle of applicants will be the most competitive but I honestly believe that you will have a chance at some of the bigger schools. These schools have to accept many applicants in order to fill there classes. You still would have a great chance to be put on a waitlist or I have even heard stories of students accepted at their interviews. So I say to apply ASAP! Good luck!

I sent my AADSAS at the end of December, applied to one school (I'll let you figure out which one), interviewed in late February, received my acceptance in March less than a week before my tuition deposit was due.

It's not the way most people would recommend, but don't let anyone tell you it's impossible.

Congradulations Aphistis! But would you say that you are the "norm" of most applicants?

I submitted all of mine the end of october to AADSAS and the end of november to UTM. I had late interviews everywhere and most schools were already full when i interviewed. So i was on the wait list and didn't find out about some schools till as late as june.

so apply early.

Oh, absolutely not. Don't do it the way I did if you can help it. I'm just trying to counterbalance all the ignorant (however well-meaning) zealots here who tramp around saying you're doomed if you don't have your AADSAS submitted within five minutes of midnight on July 1.

Hey aphistis, its time for some inconsequential hair-splitting! I believe you mean "five minutes of midnight on June 1st" not July 1st. June 1st is usually the first date AADSAS will accept applications, though we could submit as early as mid-may this cycle.

Forget it man, you're screwed!!!

No, I'm just kidding. I'm sure you can get accepted to schools if you get it to them by mid december. But you might not get into your top choice at this point. Like if you wanted to go to Case Western and submitted now, forget it. You're not gonna get in - case does things super early. Seriously their loss though!!

My mistake, sorry. 😉

Thanks for the post.

On a side note, if I apply for this cycle and dont get accepted, would it have impact in my chances for getting accepted for the next cycle? In other words is that considered a negative point?

I don't think applying more than once appears negative. If anything it shows you are determined and really want to be in this field! Again, Good luck to you, what ever your choice!

No, it shouldn't be a negative at all. Many applicants simply apply late in the cycle and that is what holds them back. My advisor would routinely pull the specter of past applicants out of her files to illustrate that applying early is a real plus (the applicants she would always refer to had no trouble the next cycle and are now dentists or are in school).
