an aqueous soln is created from equal amount of 1 M HCl and 0.01 M sodium chlorid. What is the approximate pH of the solution.

a. 0
b. 1
c. 2
d. the pH of the soln cannot be estimated without the volumes of solution.

A solution of 1 M HCl ionizes to give 1 M H+ and 1 M Cl-.
The concentration of H+ = 1M
pH=-log of H+=-log 1=0
 
What base? Sodium chloride ionizes to give Na+ and Cl-. The only OH- present is that from H2O. You may want to review your previous thread on HCl is a strong acid. A solution of sodium chloride should have a pH of:
