What is the average age of the first year dental student. Or oldest one in your class I am presently 35 years old with a 6 year old and will not apply till next cycle. I dont know if I should devote 4 more years of my life to school. In addition the financial end of it. I wouldnt graduate till I was ~41. My husband is with me 100%

This has been a long dream of mine for a long time I applied last year but didnt get in (low PAT scores🙁 ) I was kind of hoping with 16 years of experience as a dental hygienist would kelp & my volunteer works. I even helped out during the WTC disaster in forensic ID's.🙁 , in addition I have been the Vice pres for the American Dental Hygienist Association of the MId-Hudson for years,in addition a delagte on the State Level. I voluntee my time with special olymics as well as other thing including toothprinting for child in my area.

the thing is I have to retake the DAT's again and bring up my scores in particular the PAT section--my was Acedemic (19) but I took general chem 10 yrs ago and orgo ~ 8 yrs. bio is my stong point (Bio major)

any info greatly appreicated

🙂 🙂

Hi,

The national average age for dental school freshmen I've seen quoted is 25.. But I don't think that should deter you. Lots of my classmates got into dental school past 30. I was 30 when I enrolled.

What was your GPA and which schools did you apply to? Considering your DAT scores and background I would be surprised if you didn't get into any of the four New York schools last time you applied if your GPA was decent.

USC '07-average age 25. At least one of my classmates are in their 40's and many others have children.

If this is something you want to do, go for it-especially if your husband is giving you the green light. I'm sure the schools that didn't let you in made big mistakes. But you will probably need to retake the DAT-I didn't know that they lasted for more than 5 years.

average age of my nyu class of 2006 was 23
