Advanced standing programs are alot more expensive than any other dental program in this country, but they are still the most straight forward approach to gaining a license, specialty and other residency programs are an alternative in some states, but they are alot more competitive, especially when you consider they offer stipends, many graduates of US dental schools want and compete for these positions, and many hospitals and schools that offer them DO prefer US graduates.

Kinda, my perception at least, as I have tried this approach before I paid more attention to Adv. standing programs, one way to look at this; in advanced standing programs you will be competing with only foreign-trained dentists (granted there alot of us these days) versus in any other residency program you are competing with all US graduates, AEGD & GPR are very popular to gain experience for them, plus the added stipend incentive. But you can always try your luck and see how it goes, provided that you weed them out so you don't waste PASS application fees for programs that don't consider applications from foreign-trained dentists.

Best of luck ! 🙂
