so what is the consensus on gaswork.com? i've heard people say the best strategey is to pick a location, locate all the hospitals in that area and contact them directly to find out who runs the anesthesiology dept and see if they are hiring. Any other ways or strategies?

There's jobs on gaswork no doubt, but certainly not all of them. I picked a few areas (all driveable) and then simply called the hospitals or anesthesia groups if I could figure that out from the hospitals web pages. I found that many places were hiring that weren't advertised. A few even said they were thinking about hiring and therefore it was good that I called. In the end the job I picked was one I found on gaswork. It's all location, location, location. Pick one or two and stick with it. You'll always get offers to make more with more time off in places you don't want to be.

so you're a believer in gaswork? a lot of people shoot it down, but it's got a lot of reputable companies advertising on there.

This is what I did last year. It worked for me.

avoid jobs that states "growth" as a reason for hiring....I learned the HARD way.
