Sorry if I am kind of new to this but what is the final difference of MD and DO other than their documents? I know both should take USMLE as well.

Can a DO become and Orthopedic Surgeon?

Can a DO become Cardiovascular Surgeon?

As a DO you can take the USMLE, but you must take the COMLEX. Other than that, you can do anything an MD can do. Keep looking through the forum, there is plenty of info and debate.

what at troll! are you oblivious to the Sticky threads on this forum, especially the one labeled "MD vs. DO"?

Yes, regulars around here get frustrated when questions get asked repeatedly & when new users don't notice the stickies, but that's no reason to be rude.

true.

but if they cannot notice something so simple as a sticky or even use the search function, how can we expect them to be effective physicians when things get more complicated? are they always then going to ask the nurse?

Are you serious??? 🙄 Equating using the search function with clinical competency makes perfect sense.

Sekem, there are many good threads to look through to answer your questions. Don't let a few on this forum discourage you from asking questions--we all had similiar questions at one time. Good luck with your research!

1. You can use either the MD or DO degree to become any type of physician or surgeon.

2. DO's can take just the COMLEX, which is equivalent to the USMLE, or they can add the USMLE.

3. DO's learn osteopathic manipulation, which is similar to techniques that physical therapists & chiropractors use, as well as additional treatments to help the musculoskeletal system and areas innervated by somatic nerves.

They are next door to a coffee shop that does, so yes. 😀

Your best bet to get useful information without all the fighting is to read the threads titled, "*FAQ* Please read first" and "MD vs. DO Threads".

It is always a good idea to do at least a little bit of research and then come to the forum with specific questions so we can help you more effectively.

Good Luck and welcome to SDN!! 🙂
