I am taking Kaplan and what we do is map the passage by writing a few words next to each passage then answer the questions.... we do not look at the questions before reading the passage.....

I was wondering what the EK method was b/c I want to try different methods to see which one suits me best....

I think there is no right way to approach verbal.... its all on what works best for each individual person which is the reason I think these courses should teach more than one method....

The EK method is basically to read through the passage and focus on the main idea. They also recommend trying to get a feel for the type of person the author is and what their opinion of the topic is. Then use this info to determine the answers to the questions. The EK method also suggests that you do NOT look at the questions first, and that you go through the passages in the order that they are in and not skip around. If you're interested, you can buy the EK Verbal/Math book, it's pretty good. They show you how to figure out the answers to the questions without even reading the passage, so you get used to looking for clues about the passage in the actual questions and limit the amount of time you spend going back to the passage.

thanks..... i guess after reading some of the posts here that I may need to buy EK books.... Kaplan has its positives and negatives.... but I guess if I can get EK then I can combine the positives of both strategies....

I encourage you to get their verbal book, even if you are doing April MCAT. They have the most common sense stragedy and I don't think any poster on SDN could describe it to you in a way that would really help your score. you can buy the verbal book itself at amazon.com, or the complete study package with all subjects at amazon.com.

Diosa that's it!
I think it's pretty good but it doesn't hurt trying other methods and see where your output is max
