What is the start date for residency/intern year for 2010?

Is there a general start date for residency and internships for 2010? or do all programs have the option of making their own?

If it's variable, when do programs typically start around?

It's variable.

Generally, most "official start dates" (i.e. the date that you start getting paid and are actually expected to start working) is around July 1st. But almost all places require that you be there earlier, in June, for mandatory intern orientation and training (ACLS/PALS, computer training, employee physicals, medical licensure paperwork, etc.).

The earliest I had heard last year was one of my classmates starting on June 6th or so. I started intern training/orientation on June 15th.
